Colibrí Manglero Bracelet
Sapphire-bellied hummingbird / Blaubauchkolibri / Chrysuronia lilliae
Conservation status: EN - Endangered
The Sapphire-bellied Hummingbird is an endangered and rare type of hummingbird. It is found in mangrove forests & loves scrubby areas along the Colombian coast.
Although small, measuring only 8cm, its plumage ranging from intense sapphire blue to green and shimmery purple enchants anyone whose eyes have laid sight on this little fellow.
For multiple indigenous communities living in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, birds are a way of understanding the world. Some indigenous people believe the Guacamaya and the Hummingbird brought corn and cocoa to Earth, whilst the WIWA people perceive the hummingbirds as message carriers.
Currently, they are greatly endangered due to habitat loss, and therefore for each Colibrí Manglero you purchase, we will be helping O2 Reserve to protect 5m² of native tropical rainforest in Magdalena Medio in Colombia.
